N-Park Young Adults/FIVE update
July 9, 2009
Hey everyone, Bekah and I are super excited to be back from our trip to Missouri. Thanks again for going with us in prayer and for loaning us out for nearly a month!
In case you missed any of the videos, I’ve posted them on facebook and on our youtube channel and blog.
We have a whole bunch of things going on this summer…
First, we have a brand new COLLEGE GROUP that meets in person at 7:00 pm on Thursdays in the Young Adults room and online on Fbook.
Contact Raul, for more info contact RaulHernandez2006@yahoo.com
Second, we are celebrating ONE YEAR for THE FIVE service this coming Sunday evening at 5:00 pm right here at Northpark. We will be worshiping together per usual and have a party with free homemade nachos after the service. Everyone is welcome!
Third, we are coming up on our outreach to the central valley town of Huron. As we’ve been speaking about, you don’t have to go overseas to be a missionary, you can and should be one right here in the valley! Contact our office or myself, ryan@northparkchurch.org for more info.
Finally, we have just confirmed that LEAD NOW 2009 will be happening at The Bridge EV Free church in Fresno. We will be co-hosting the event with The Bridge Young Adults group and also involved will be Peoples Church and First Baptist. We are working to make this event the greatest young adults/college training event in Fresno ever! So, mark your calendars now, Nov. 7th 2009…
See you soon!
Ryan

Fittingly, Amelia and I returned to Fresno on the 4th of July, flying into a sky lit up with rockets red glare. I have never felt as happy to see the valley as I was on Saturday. It really looked and felt like home. Sunday was a great day and now Micah and Bekah are back.
If you haven”t heard, we’ve spent the last three and a half weeks working with missionary kids in Missouri. Here are three videos we sent back while we were there. Fourth chapter is forth coming….
The Motorcycle Diaries
June 11, 2009
Ernesto “Che” Guevera was an Argentine Marxist revolutionary, but before the violence and guerilla warfare he was simply a medical student with a longing to help the sick and oppressed. In his book “The Motorcycle Diaries” you see him before he was ever known as “Che”, on the back of a motorcycle with his friend Alberto Granado. The journey took Guevara through Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Panama, and to Miami, before returning to Argentina. Their main objective was to reach the leper colony of San Pablo in the Amazon, but along the way they witnessed first hand the poverty and oppression the people of south america were being forced to endure. All these things ignited a fire in “Che” that would change him forever. I truly believe that we are all given “Christ-like” gifts. Whether its the ability to see beauty in everything or to love everyone as Christ loved us, “Che” had a compassion for his people that can only be compared to the compassion Christ has for the poor. Now before you get up in arms and say “How dare you compare Jesus Christ to someone as violent as ‘Che’ Guevera” I am by no means condoning the violent acts he committed later in his life. Most people only know “Che” as he was along side Fidel Castro, angry and wanting change by ANY means necessary. He was not always like this. Sometimes when we dont have Christ in our lives we use the gifts he gave us in all the wrong ways. In “The Motorcycle Diaries” you see a young “Che” who loved and genuinly cared for his people. He treated the people of the leper colony not as outcasts but brothers. As you read the book or watch the movie you feel the pain he felt, you want to help the people just as badly as he did, as Christ would have wanted us to.

“When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.”

We are still looking for volunteers to help with set-up, tear-down and childcare. For those of you that did not know, Sunday’s sermon is online at northparkchurch.org so if you want to see or hear the sermon from the previous Sunday or from a Sunday months ago, just go there and click on Talk Media. For those of you college students (or in that age range) The Way Campus Ministry has gotten official recognition from CSU, Fresno and has a room to meet in for every week this semester. We meet in McLane 229 every Wednesday at noon. Food and drink will be provided. Lastly I know most of you have been wondering what has happened to Hanz and Franz, they are on Youtube. Weekly Update Dec. 17th
December 17, 2008
Hello everyone, hard to believe but 2008 has come and gone so fast we’ve barely had any time for reflection. It may be hard to do with the supersonic pace most of us grow accustomed to, but it’s my personal desire this year to hit the ‘pause’ button and reflect for a moment on the unsurpassed glory of the incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ. Nothing is worth celebrating more than that!
This coming Sunday night we are proud to be present our Almost Acoustic Christmas party at our Dec. 21 Sunday 5:00 pm gathering. It’s still a church service yet also a party, a chance to reflect in silence and a chance to laugh and celebrate with each other. Hope to see you there.
For those of you college aged party people, we are part of a Tijuana Christmas Party taking place tomorrow Dec. 18th at New Covenant Church, 1744 E. Nees Ave, at 7:00 pm. There will be food, fun and Salsa Dancing (lesson included) so you don’t want to miss it.
In honor of the holidays, the next couple of weeks there will be no Conversations class on Sunday mornings. The class will resume in the new year with some new wrinkles. Stay tuned for more details.
This coming Friday night, We Are One partners Ephraim clothing are sponsoring The Unseen Show benefit concert to to build an Art School for girls rescued from brothels and the sex slave trade. The show begins at 6:45 pm and costs $5.
Next Monday Dec. 22, we have an opportunity to serve at Community Food Bank, helping load boxes of prepared food into cars to deliver them to needy families. Message us for more details!
Merry Christmas and God bless,
Ryan
