Weekly Update Feb. 20th

February 20, 2008

So, in you hadn’t figured it out yet, we’re pretty excited about our upcoming Celebration B and want all of you guys to come out and invite your friends. It’s gonna be pretty cool this time. So, that’s coming up in just over a week, Feb. 28th.

This coming Sunday is the conclusion of our Consider the Tree series and I (Ryan) will be speaking with Dave Raufman about being Sent out by God to be a collaborator with Jesus in order to redeem the world, together. Our service times here at Northpark are at 8:00, 9:30, and 11:00, all on Sunday mornings.

Under the Thumbs Up tab, I refreshed the content with a couple of videos I really like.

Weekly Update Feb. 11th

February 11, 2008

Hello everyone, if you haven’t had a chance to make it out to the World Vision Experience: AIDS, today is the last day you can do it. So, keep that in mind if you’re at all interested.

In the Big News category, we are going to be having another Celebration for small groups on February 28th Thursday night 6:30 pm in 202/206 young adults room. The last celebration was good times but I promise this one will be infinitely better because a lot more people will be involved in planning it and they are typically a lot smarter than I am about things like games and food. Stay tuned for more details and for a flyer that you can post on your social networking site of choice or blog. This coming year, we are going to be forming a team of leaders and by the end of the month we should have a calendar prepared for the whole year. Not that we still won’t be spontaneous but we won’t be sneaking things up on you all as much. Better planning and preparation…? New Year’s resolutions.

Last month I was asked to prepare an annual report for the young adults department. It was really an 8-month report since we all just got started officially in April but if anyone wants to see it, I’ll make it available here. young adults annual reportĀ 2007

Have a great week and a Happy Valentine’s Day,

Ryan.

I want to invite everyone to come by the World Vision Experience: AIDS exhibit at Campus Bible Church (on Maple between Shaw and Gettysburg) this Sunday night at 6:00 pm. Or if you can’t make it then, consider going at some other point Friday through Monday. The addresses, physical and web are below. After experiencing the step into Africa together, we’ll head somewhere to have dinner together and discuss what we can do as a community to fight this pandemic.

I also want to invite you to join me in observing Lent this year with a special emphasis on God’s Justice. World Vision’s Acting on AIDS (college and young adults wing) has put this together:

40 Days Toward Justice–A Time to Observe Lent

“Lent is a 40-day period of spiritual cleansing and preparation that culminates in the celebration of the resurrection of Christ at Easter. Many choose to fast from something to help engage the spiritual cleansing. It is important, however, to remember that Lent is not a time of depravation but of enhancement. We make room in our lives for a deeper relationship to God.

This Lent season, Acting on AIDS is launching 40 Days Toward Justice. This is a time for you and your fellow Acting on AIDS leaders to focus on the justice of God and the role he invites each of us to play. We invite you to use this resource to enhance your observation of Lent. If you’ve never before observed Lent, consider doing so this year.

40 Days Toward Justice will include a series of scripture readings and a variety of writings from experts at World Vision, InterVarsity, Sojourners and Saddleback Church. We hope this is a resource that will help you and your Acting on AIDS community to enhance your understanding of God’s heart for justice and empower you to respond.”

Weekly Update Jan. 31, 2008

February 1, 2008

Beginning next week on Thursday, World Vision will be presenting their Experience: AIDS exhibit at Campus Bible Church over by Fresno State. They are in need of volunteers for set up shifts (Thursday), serving people going through the experience (Friday though Monday) and tear down (Tuesday). When I attended the World Summit on AIDS and the church, Rebekah, Dave Raufman and I were able to participate in this interactive exhibit. It was a powerful and inspiring experience and both Bekah and I believe in this so much that we are going to be volunteering all day on Thursday and then on Monday afternoon as well.

If you are interested in volunteering for any morning, evening or night shifts, please contact me as soon as possible,
