This Sunday, 4th of July, Big Time Stuff
June 25, 2008
Hello everyone, we have returned from Mexico tired, and dusty but in awe of what God was doing there through the local churches. We were so thankful to be included in the mission of God’s church to reach out to those in need. In the area around Ensenada, we were able to build houses for migrant farm workers who were living in some of the worst conditions I have ever seen….we were also able to host VBS in four locations plus do several other ministries, including taking on the best junior high soccer team ever. Thanks to Nick Burns, we narrowly lost, if only he wouldn’t have played such a subpar game
Anyhow, I’ve come crashing back into the whirlwind this week. I’m very excited to note that I will be speaking the next three consecutive weeks on Sunday nights and in all the gatherings on July 6th….should be lots of fun and lots of work considering that Bob stuck me with the passages on Anger, Adultery, Divorce, etc. Thanks Bob…have a great vacation.
On July 4th at 5:00 pm, we are going to reprise our Fourth o’ July party in the Ranchos at Dave and Catherine Hartley’s house. This year we’re starting later so we can all enjoy (slightly) cooler temperatures, fireworks, pool, volleyball and to cap the night off, outdoor films. Plan ahead to be there now and let us know if we’re coming so we can tell you what kind of coleslaw to bring.
quote about sunday gatherings
June 17, 2008
Yes, we’re Americans. We multitask all day long. Efficiency is one of our top cultural values. I, too, am pragmatic. I’d like to use Sunday morning to worship God, to get a few pointers on how to improve my relationship with Jesus, and to reconnect with community. But every Sunday, the first words heard at my institutional church are, “Blessed be God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.” And I’m reminded that we gather weekly not to hear a practical talk on how to better live out our faith or to provide a venue to tell our friends about Jesus. We gather corporately to worship God, to celebrate the redeeming work of Christ on the cross, and to remember that our lives are not about us.

Hey people, I’ve put up some new photos from Sunday nights, the response thus far has been phenomenal, we’ve had around 100 people both weeks.
We’ll do it again this week, check out the photos and hope to see you there.
Also, don’t forget about the AXIS relaunch tonight at Northpark…. sounds like a lot of fun.

Sunday Night: Week one
June 5, 2008
Last Sunday’s launch was a phenomenal time…there was good energy and a real sense that we are embarking on a road trip together to only God knows where. So many people pitched in to set up the backdrops, run sound and words, greet and put out snacks. We continue to look for volunteers for children’s programming and for others to help with set up and tear down.
This Sunday and every Sunday, we’ll be doing it again. You know where to find us!
Ryan
